What is Microsoft Azure?

What is Microsoft Azure?
Those of us in the technology-world frequently use words or terms that have become so
familiar to us, they are as common as the words YES or NO. However, we realize that may not
be the case for everyone out there, so we decided to break it down.

Cloud Computing:
Today, we are going to start off with a cloud computing platform. There are two main players in
the cloud computing world: Amazon Web Services, which is the largest and Microsoft Azure,
which is the second largest but fastest growing.

Microsoft Azure:
At CSI, we use Microsoft Azure for our cloud computing. And what is cloud computing? Cloud
computing is a technology that provides access to various computing resources over the
internet. Simply put, it allows you to safely work from anywhere. You use your computer or
phone to connect to your cloud and you have access to just about anything and everything. You
do not need to rely on aging hardware in order for your business to function. Specifically,
Microsoft Azure provides a range of cloud services, including computing, analytics, storage and
networking. It allows you to access and utilize cloud services provided by Microsoft. The main
goal is to assist with the challenges and exceed your goals. It is a tool to help your business.

Again… what does it do?
With Azure you can create a virtual machine, create scalable applications and applications in
any language. You can deliver content to anyone around the world, store a massive amount of
data and it is security at its best.

Some interesting facts about Microsoft Azure:

  • In less than 10 years, it is the second largest cloud computing platform in the world
  • 80% of Fortune 500 companies use Microsoft Azure for their cloud computing needs
  • Azure has 42 data centers around the world – they plan to increase that by 12. It is the
highest number of data centers for any cloud platform.
  • It provides over 200 services

Microsoft Azure is a platform that will only continue to grow and get better. For more information, contact us! We would love to hear from you.
