On March 1, 2022, Computer Systems, Inc. (CSI) will turn 40 years old.  The business opened in 1981 and is still locally owned today.  CSI started as a humble retail store selling Commodores and Apple computers, taking delivery of the first Apple LISA computer in 1983.

CSI has changed a lot in 40 years just as the information technology industry has.  Keeping up with the ever-evolving industry was how the company grew and sustained its customers.  From a showroom on West Center Road, through several acquisitions and mergers, to changing the company to a managed services provider (MSP) the company has always been dedicated to customer service.

Greg Jacobs, President says “The real story of our longevity is the people. Success in any business is about your product or solution, no doubt. But a good business requires great people and we have had many.”

To celebrate, on March 4^th, CSI is hosting their clients for a roundtable state of the industry panel discussion following be hors d’oeuvres and socializing.  To complete the celebration, the leadership team will host a reunion with current and past employees.

Thank goodness the end is near… or is it? As I reflect upon the last 365 days, I am reminded of the several things I got wrong (and it is an impressive list). I feel that I am, however, a little smarter because of the lessons learned by those mistakes. Notice I said “a little” smarter. Let’s not get carried away here!

Lesson #1: Never assume the bad guys won’t capitalize on our pain! Yes, there were computer viruses and security attacks focused on the pandemic, PPP loans, and almost anything related to Covid-19. It is a reminder that we have to always be vigilant against hacking attempts. 

Lesson #2: Working from anywhere is actually doable and successful. We have all worked from home (or on the road, from vacation, etc.) in small doses, but once it became a necessity, the overwhelming effort put forth by our teams made a difficult situation work for us all. It has been an incredible learning experience 

Lesson #3: I have a terrific team at CSI. No, it didn’t require a pandemic for me to realize this, but the effort and time the technical team put in was world-class and I can never say thank you enough. Many of you have complimented me on the job they did moving your workforce to home last spring, so you know what I’m talking about. I am certain many of you feel the same way about your team 

Thank you for your support in 2020. Even though it was a challenging year, I have many things to be thankful for – and that includes all of you. I look forward to working with each of you in 2021!
