You may know, you may be somewhat aware, or you may not know at all.  Wherever your knowledge level is, this is what you need to know. Microsoft is retiring Internet Explorer (IE) on June 15th.  It isn’t 100% clear exactly when something will change on a user’s PCs that stops Internet Explorer from working or is it clear exactly how the disabling of Internet Explorer will work.

Over the last few years, Microsoft has moved away from Internet Explorer and move toward Microsoft Edge. Microsoft Edge has Internet Explorer mode (“IE mode”) built in, so you can access those legacy Internet Explorer-based websites and applications straight from Microsoft Edge.

For consumers it is a matter of switching to Microsoft Edge or another browser such as Google Chrome. For businesses, you may have a surprisingly large set of legacy Internet Explorer-based websites and apps, built up over many years. By moving to Microsoft Edge, you’ll be able to extend the life of your legacy websites and apps well beyond the Internet Explorer 11 desktop application retirement date using IE mode. Internet Explorer mode in Microsoft Edge will be supported through at least 2029.

Microsoft states in a recent blog post. To prepare your organization for June 15, 2022, we recommend the following three steps to begin setting up Microsoft Edge with Internet Explorer mode:

  1. Check out the Internet Explorer mode website for more details.
  1. Read the Getting Started guide for helpful check lists, instructional videos and links to no-cost support.
  1. Reuse your Enterprise Mode Site List from Internet Explorer if you already have one. Reusing your Enterprise Mode Site List means you’re already on your way to setting up IE mode. If you don’t have one, create one using this Configure IE mode tool.

Here at Computer Systems, Inc. we just wanted to make sure you are aware that Internet Explorer is about to head off into the sunset after a long up and down career and if you have any questions about it, please contact us.

For most of our clients that have web applications that previously required IE we have already tested and confirmed those Web Apps work through the IE mode in the Edge Browser. For our clients we know most of the important sites will work without IE.  But if you are still using internet explorer as your default browser, it is time to move to another browser like Google Chrome or Microsoft Edge.

We are always available to you if you have questions or concerns.
